West Ham 1-1 QPR: Bowen levels but misses late penalty
West Ham drew 1-1 with QPR at the London Stadium after Nicolas Madsen's penalty and Jarrod Bowen's equaliser, with Bowen missing a penalty in stoppage time.
Jarrod Bowen missed a stoppage-time penalty after scoring West Ham’s equaliser as QPR held the hosts to a 1-1 Championship draw at the London Stadium.
Bowen cancelled out Nicolas Madsen’s first-half penalty with a 70th-minute strike, then had the opportunity to complete the turnaround from the spot.
But the West Ham captain failed to convert in the first minute of added time, leaving both sides with a point.
West Ham 1-1 QPR: Bowen’s late chance goes begging
Madsen put QPR ahead from the penalty spot after 18 minutes, and the visitors preserved their advantage until half-time.
West Ham made a double substitution at the interval, introducing Edvin Austbø and Pablo for Kyle Walker-Peters and Tomáš Souček.
Lewis Orford and Joël Piroe followed in the 68th minute, replacing Divine Mukasa and Manor Solomon. Two minutes later, Bowen brought the hosts level with a right-footed finish.
His late penalty offered West Ham a chance to turn the draw into a victory, but the miss proved the final significant moment in the scoring.
West Ham unable to turn possession into victory
West Ham finished with 65% possession and registered 12 shots to QPR’s seven. Five of the hosts’ attempts were on target, compared with three for the visitors.
The home side were also credited with four big chances to QPR’s two, but could not find a second goal.
QPR’s first-half advantage had forced West Ham to chase the game, and Bowen’s equaliser ultimately secured a point rather than setting up a winning finish.
