Pierre Sage Future: Crystal Palace Hold Off Manager Change

Crystal Palace have no immediate plans to replace Pierre Sage following Sunday’s 5-0 defeat at Brighton, according to Sky Sports.

The report offers some clarity over the manager’s immediate position after he was unable to say whether he would be given time to recover from the derby defeat.

However, Sky Sports reports that Sage remains under increasing pressure, with Palace struggling to contain opponents.

Pierre Sage future under scrutiny after Brighton collapse

Palace conceded three times inside the opening 10 minutes at the Amex. The eventual five-goal margin matched their heaviest defeat against Brighton, last suffered in January 1956.

Sage accepted responsibility for Palace’s preparation and performance afterwards.

Asked whether he would have time to turn things around, he told Sky: “I don’t know.”

The immediate concern is the frequency with which Palace are conceding. They have allowed 17 goals in seven Premier League matches, the division’s worst defensive record.

Their seven points left them 14th after Sunday’s fixtures, only two points above the relegation zone.

Besiktas and Newcastle next for Palace

Palace visit Besiktas in the Europa League on Thursday 22 October before hosting Newcastle on Sunday 25 October.

The European trip follows their 3-2 defeat at Lyon, where a second-half fightback was insufficient after they fell two goals behind.

Across those two defeats, Palace conceded eight times. Improving their defensive organisation is now central to Sage’s attempt to steady results.
