Patrick Dorgu earns the highest mark in our Man Utd vs Aston Villa player ratings after transforming a seemingly lost cause into a dramatic 4-4 draw at Old Trafford.

The substitute supplied Joshua Zirkzee’s late goal before heading United level in the sixth minute of stoppage time. His intervention rescued a defence which had twice allowed Villa to establish a two-goal advantage.

Alysson was the visitors’ outstanding attacking threat, while Diogo Dalot and Senne Lammens endured particularly difficult afternoons.

These are Dave.Sport’s editorial ratings, based on the published match reporting and recorded incidents. Marks are out of 10. NR means insufficient involvement to award a mark.

Senne Lammens — 3

Beaten by Alysson’s opening effort and unable to hold the shot which allowed Nicolas Jackson to score the second. United’s problems began in front of him, but those early interventions made their position considerably worse.

Leny Yoro — 3

His attempted clearance contributed to the scramble from which Leon Goretzka scored Villa’s fourth. A costly moment when United needed composure after falling behind again.

Diogo Dalot — 3

Struggled against Alysson and conceded the penalty which undid United’s first-half recovery. His challenge gave Villa a straightforward route back into the lead.

Youri Tielemans — 7

Scored his first United goal against his former club, bringing the hosts level before half-time. One of the stronger contributions from the starting midfield, even if United could not build on that recovery.

Bruno Fernandes — 8

Converted the penalty which began the first comeback and delivered the corner from which Dorgu completed the second. United needed decisive contributions rather than sympathy, and their captain supplied them.

Matheus Cunha — 6

Won the first-half penalty after drawing a foul from Boubacar Kamara. That intervention gave United a foothold when Villa threatened to take the match away from them.

Man Utd substitutes

Ayden Heaven — 5: Replaced Maguire at half-time and entered another difficult spell for United’s defence. The change did not immediately bring greater stability.

Patrick Dorgu — 9: Dave.Sport player of the match. The decisive substitute. His delivery gave Zirkzee the chance to reduce the deficit before his own header secured the draw. A goal and an assist when United had almost run out of time.

Mason Mount — 7: Struck the crossbar as United searched for a route back. Offered a meaningful attacking contribution from the bench.

Shea Lacey — 6: Introduced as Carrick refreshed his attack. The decisive late moments came elsewhere, but United finished with a greater threat than they had shown for much of the second half.

Joshua Zirkzee — 8: Made his limited time count. Converted Dorgu’s cross to revive the contest and give United the opportunity to chase an equaliser.

Aston Villa player ratings

Taylor Harwood-Bellis5
Pau Torres5
Ian Maatsen5
Boubacar Kamara4
Leon Goretzka7
Alysson8
Johan Manzambi6
John McGinn8
Nicolas Jackson7

Alysson — 8

Scored the opener, had the shot which led to Jackson’s goal and won the second-half penalty. Villa’s most damaging attacker and a persistent problem for Dalot.

John McGinn — 8

Created the opening goal and converted the penalty which restored Villa’s lead. His contribution deserved a better outcome than the visitors eventually managed.

Nicolas Jackson — 7

Reacted quickly to punish Lammens for Villa’s second. His alertness helped establish the early advantage, although the visitors ultimately failed to protect it.

Leon Goretzka — 7

Finished from close range to make it 4-2. It should have given Villa a strong platform to complete the job, but their late defending undermined it.

Zion Suzuki — 4

Made saves during United’s first-half response, but his failure to deal with the final corner proved hugely expensive. Dorgu’s equaliser overshadowed the better parts of his afternoon.

Boubacar Kamara — 4

His foul on Cunha allowed United back into the match from the penalty spot. Villa had started superbly and did not need to offer their opponents that encouragement.

Aston Villa substitutes

Ross Barkley — 5; George Hemmings — 5; João Gomes — 5; Ibrahim Mbaye — 5. Villa’s changes did not provide the control required to close out a two-goal lead. None receives sole blame for the collapse, but the collective outcome limits the marks.

Brian Madjo — NR. Replaced Jackson late on, leaving too little involvement for a meaningful individual assessment.

Why Dorgu gets the highest rating

Alysson produced Villa’s strongest attacking performance, but Dorgu changed the result when United were almost out of time. His contribution to both stoppage-time goals makes him our player of the match.

The rescue should not disguise the wider assessment. United’s attacking substitutes earned their marks; the defensive mistakes still warrant low scores.
