Celtic Confirmed Lineup vs Celta Vigo: Johnstone Starts

Sam Johnstone replaces Viljami Sinisalo in Celtic’s only change for Thursday’s Europa League meeting with Celta Vigo, with Martin O’Neill retaining all 10 outfield players from the side that beat Hearts 7–1.

Callum Osmand and Benjamin Nygren keep their places after scoring twice apiece in Sunday’s emphatic victory at Celtic Park. Haissem Hassan and Camilo Durán also start, while Kasper Høgh remains among the substitutes.

Callum McGregor captains Celtic as they seek their first points of the Europa League campaign.

Johnstone comes in as O’Neill keeps attacking options together

The goalkeeper switch is the sole alteration from the Hearts game, with Sinisalo moving to the bench.

Colby Donovan, Dane Murray, Liam Scales and Kieran Tierney retain their places in defence. McGregor, Mika Baur and Nygren also continue in the starting side.

O’Neill has kept Osmand in the XI following his two-goal contribution on Sunday, with Hassan and Durán providing further attacking options. Høgh, Sebastian Tounekti and James Forrest are available from the bench, alongside Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Celtic confirmed XI and substitutes

Celtic have published their team announcement for the Celta Vigo match.

Starting XI: Sam Johnstone, Colby Donovan, Dane Murray, Liam Scales, Kieran Tierney, Callum McGregor (captain), Mika Baur, Benjamin Nygren, Haissem Hassan, Callum Osmand, Camilo Durán.

Substitutes: Sinisalo, Lotomba, Høgh, McCowan, Tounekti, Sørensen, Oxlade-Chamberlain, McArdle, Forrest, Ralston, Haney, Kennedy.

Celtic need to turn domestic goals into European points

Sunday’s seven-goal performance followed a difficult start to the league phase. Celtic lost 3–1 to Ferencváros before suffering a 4–1 defeat at Benfica, leaving them without a point after two matches.

The retained outfield XI now has the opportunity to build on the Hearts performance against Spanish opposition.

Kick-off at Celtic Park is 8pm BST on Thursday 22 October. Our Celtic vs Celta Vigo viewing guide has the UK television and streaming details.
