Brentford suspensions: why Yehor Yarmoliuk misses three games and Vitaly Janelt is banned for one
Both midfielders will miss the trip to Hull City, but the Carabao Cup schedule gives them different routes back into Keith Andrews’ side.
Both midfielders will miss the trip to Hull City, but the Carabao Cup schedule gives them different routes back into Keith Andrews’ side.
Brentford’s suspensions will leave Keith Andrews without Yehor Yarmoliuk and Vitaly Janelt at Hull City on Sunday, with Yarmoliuk also set to miss the following two fixtures.
Janelt serves a one-match ban after receiving two yellow cards in the 2-1 defeat by Liverpool. Yarmoliuk’s straight red card for violent conduct carries a three-match suspension.
The distinction matters because Brentford visit Sunderland in the Carabao Cup between their league games against Hull and Nottingham Forest. That cup fixture counts towards Yarmoliuk’s ban.
Brentford suspensions: which matches will they miss?
The Premier League’s suspension list records Janelt as unavailable for Gameweek 8 and Yarmoliuk for Gameweeks 8 and 9.
Applied to the current fixture schedule, their absences and earliest returns are:
| Date | Fixture | Yarmoliuk | Janelt |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sunday 25 October | Hull City away — Premier League | Suspended | Suspended |
| Wednesday 28 October | Sunderland away — Carabao Cup | Suspended | Eligible to return |
| Saturday 31 October | Nottingham Forest home — Premier League | Suspended | Ban served |
| Sunday 8 November | Brighton away — Premier League | Eligible to return | Ban served |
These dates concern suspension eligibility and assume the fixtures take place as scheduled. Selection will also depend on fitness and Andrews’ team choices.
Why is Yarmoliuk’s ban longer than Janelt’s?
Yarmoliuk was dismissed in first-half stoppage time against Liverpool after aiming a headbutt at Jérémy Jacquet. Janelt was sent off late in the match after collecting a second booking.
The FA’s disciplinary guidance for 2026/27 sets a standard three-match suspension for violent conduct and a one-match suspension for receiving two cautions in the same game.
That leaves Andrews replacing both midfielders at Hull, before Janelt becomes available again for the cup tie.
Why does Sunderland count towards the ban?
Red-card suspensions carry across the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
Brentford’s fourth-round trip to Sunderland on 28 October therefore serves as the second match of Yarmoliuk’s suspension, between Hull and Forest.
His three-match punishment consequently covers two league fixtures and one cup game.
Are any other Brentford players close to a ban?
The Premier League also lists Janelt and Igor Thiago on four league bookings.
A fifth caution within a club’s first 19 Premier League matches triggers a one-match league suspension. That is a separate disciplinary threshold from the red-card bans being served now.
For Brentford, it means Andrews must manage an immediate midfield shortage while two regular starters remain one booking away from another league absence.
