Australia World Cup

Australia coach Kevin Walters has confirmed Jack Bostock and Tom Trbojevic have been selected to play on the wings at the Rugby League World Cup.

“Bostock and Trbojevic will be on the wings, that’s what they have been selected for,” Walters told the Courier-Mail.

The Kangaroos begin their campaign against New Zealand in Sydney on Thursday 15 October.

Australia World Cup squad offers fullback choice

James Tedesco and Reece Walsh are both in the squad, leaving Walters with a decision over the fullback position.

Tedesco earned his recall after helping Sydney Roosters win the NRL premiership and collecting the Clive Churchill Medal.

Bostock is among six uncapped players selected for the tournament, alongside Sam Walker, Bradman Best, Blayke Brailey, David Fifita and Jacob Preston.

The tournament’s official squad coverage also confirmed Latrell Mitchell’s return, with Best and Kotoni Staggs providing further options in the outside backs.

Walters’ comments clarify his plans for the wings without announcing a complete starting side.

Collins withdrawal forces squad change

Australia have already made one alteration to the group named on Monday, with Lindsay Smith replacing Lindsay Collins following the Roosters prop’s foot injury.

Captain Isaah Yeo remains available after deciding to delay pectoral surgery until after the competition.

England have also named their tournament group, with George Williams leading Brian McDermott’s 23-player squad.
