James Wade has received fresh backing for a return to Premier League Darts, with Matt Edgar supporting his inclusion in the 2027 competition.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Love The Darts podcast, in a clip published on Wednesday, Edgar backed Wade to regain a place after missing this year’s tournament.

The endorsement follows Wade’s Flanders Darts Trophy victory in September and recent support from Luke Humphries.

James Wade builds case for Premier League return

Wade beat Ross Smith 8-4 in Antwerp to end a decade-long wait for a European Tour title.

PDC Europe’s tournament report confirmed it was his first success on the circuit since Hamburg in 2016 and his first European Tour final since 2018.

Humphries also spoke positively about Wade’s Premier League prospects during last week’s World Grand Prix.

“I’d love to be seeing him in the Premier League because I’m good friends with him,” Humphries said, in comments published by DartsNews.

Humphries praised Wade’s competitiveness and said he had appeared more relaxed while producing strong performances.

Wade missed the 2026 Premier League despite reaching the previous season’s UK Open and World Matchplay finals.

His Antwerp title has given supporters of his return another result to point to, although Edgar’s endorsement does not confirm a place in next year’s field.
