Lindsay Collins ruled out of World Cup with foot injury

Lindsay Collins has been ruled out of the Rugby League World Cup with a foot injury, with Lindsay Smith replacing him in Australia’s squad.

The Sydney Roosters prop was named in Kevin Walters’ 23-player group on Monday but withdrew on Tuesday after playing through the injury during his club’s premiership-winning campaign.

NRL.com confirmed the change in its latest injury update.

Collins, 30, has won 12 caps for Australia. His withdrawal comes just days after the Roosters beat Newcastle Knights 19–18 in Sunday’s NRL grand final.

Lindsay Smith replaces Lindsay Collins

Penrith forward Smith returns to the international squad after featuring in last year’s Ashes series against England.

He came off the bench in Australia’s 14–4 victory in the second Test in Liverpool and has made two appearances for the Kangaroos.

Australia begin their World Cup campaign against New Zealand at Allianz Stadium in Sydney on Thursday 15 October.

Walters’ original squad included six uncapped players, with Sam Walker, Bradman Best, Blayke Brailey, David Fifita, Jack Bostock and Jacob Preston selected.

Yeo remains available as captain

Australia captain Isaah Yeo will delay surgery on his pectoral injury until after the tournament.

The Penrith forward has maintained that he can perform despite the problem, providing continuity in a pack that will now be without Collins.

England have also confirmed their tournament selection, with George Williams leading Brian McDermott’s 23-player World Cup squad.
