Bobby Thomas Injury: Coventry Await Update Before Sunderland

Coventry City are waiting to establish the extent of Bobby Thomas’ injury after the defender was forced off during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat by Fulham.

Frank Lampard could not provide a diagnosis after the match, leaving Thomas’ availability unresolved ahead of next weekend’s home game against Sunderland.

The centre-back tried to continue after receiving treatment but was eventually replaced by Stephen Mfuni around the hour mark, with the match still goalless.

Lampard unable to confirm extent of Thomas injury

“I’m hoping it’s not too bad,” Lampard said, as reported by CoventryLive.

The Coventry manager explained that Thomas had also been dealing with illness, but that a separate physical problem had prompted his withdrawal.

RotoWire’s update, citing CoventryLive, reported that Thomas was later seen with ice below his left knee. That observation does not establish a diagnosis, and no recovery timetable has been confirmed.

Mfuni provides an option for Sunderland visit

Coventry host Sunderland on Saturday 31 October, with the club listing a 3pm kick-off at the CBS Arena.

Mfuni replaced Thomas alongside Ethan Pinnock against Fulham, giving Lampard an option should a change be required. The substitution is recorded in FotMob’s match centre, although Thomas has not been ruled out of the Sunderland fixture.

Coventry were level when Thomas departed before Oscar Bobb’s 80th-minute goal settled the contest. Our Coventry–Fulham match report covers the defeat, which followed Monday’s loss at Tottenham.

Lampard must now prepare for another home match while awaiting clarity over whether he can retain his starting centre-back partnership.
