Maisie Symonds celebrates scoring for Brighton against West Ham at the Amex

Maisie Symonds scored a spectacular opener as Brighton beat West Ham 3-0 at the Amex Stadium, with Fran Kirby and Kiko Seike adding second-half goals.

Symonds struck in the 29th minute before Kirby doubled Brighton’s advantage in the 63rd. Seike scored three minutes later to put the hosts firmly in control, with the result and goal timings confirmed by Brighton’s official website.

The victory provided an emphatic response to Albion’s narrow defeat at Manchester City the previous weekend.

Symonds supplies the breakthrough

Brighton’s captain opened the scoring with a long-range effort into the top corner on a wet and windy evening at the Amex.

It was the outstanding individual moment of the match, giving Albion a lead they carried into half-time.

West Ham remained only a goal behind until midway through the second half, when Brighton scored twice in quick succession to take the game away from them.

Kirby and Seike settle the contest

Kirby slid in at the far post to make it 2-0 before Seike added the third, as described in the Guardian’s WSL coverage.

The three-minute spell changed the task facing West Ham. A single goal could previously have brought them level; now they needed three simply to recover a point.

Brighton completed the win without conceding. Sky Sports’ match highlights show the goals from the evening’s WSL fixture.

Brighton turn their response into points

Albion had threatened a comeback in their 3-2 defeat at Manchester City, recovering from three goals down to leave the champions protecting a narrow lead.

This time, Brighton established the advantage and extended it. Symonds provided the breakthrough, while Kirby and Seike ensured West Ham could not remain within one goal heading into the closing stages.

The result lifted Brighton to eighth, with West Ham dropping to 12th after Saturday’s matches. Those positions remain subject to the rest of the weekend’s fixtures.
