Oscar Bobb scored an 80th-minute winner as Fulham beat Coventry City 1-0 at the CBS Arena to climb out of the Premier League relegation zone.

The winger worked his way into the penalty area and curled a shot into the far corner, settling a match in which neither side had found an early breakthrough.

Fulham followed their victory over Hull City with another win and clean sheet, reaching eight points. Coventry remained on six after a second successive defeat.

King hits the woodwork before Bobb breaks through

Coventry threatened early through Brandon Thomas-Asante, who headed over, before Fulham took greater control of possession.

Josh King came close to putting the visitors ahead with a shot against the crossbar. Those first-half openings are detailed in AS’s match report.

Neither side scored before the interval, and the game remained level deep into the second half.

Frank Lampard introduced Ephron Mason-Clark, Taiwo Awoniyi and Frank Onyeka in a triple change as Coventry sought a breakthrough. Fulham also changed their attacking options, bringing on Rodrigo Muniz and César Palacios.

Bobb supplies the decisive finish

The winner came through Bobb, who escaped the attempts of Jay Dasilva and Jack Rudoni to stop him before finishing across Carl Rushworth.

The Guardian’s report describes the individual quality behind the goal. King was credited with the assist in the match event record.

Fulham then introduced Kenny Tete and Tom Cairney, while Coventry sent on Gustavo Hamer in their search for an equaliser. The home side could not find one.

Consecutive wins change Fulham’s position

Before the game, Álvaro Arbeloa had maintained that Fulham’s ambitions were unchanged despite their difficult start. His pre-match assessment of Coventry stressed the need to build on the Hull victory.

His side have now collected six points from two matches, having taken five from their opening seven before this fixture.

For Coventry, the defeat followed Monday’s loss at Tottenham and left them second-bottom at the final whistle.

Lampard had highlighted Fulham’s ability to retain possession and play through opponents in his pre-match press conference. Coventry kept them out for 79 minutes, but Bobb’s finish proved the difference.

After the encouragement of their recent wins over Nottingham Forest and Newcastle, Coventry now need to recover from consecutive setbacks.
