Celtic manager Martin O’Neill has confirmed his determination to continue in charge after considering his future during the international break.

The 74-year-old had said he would reflect on his position following three successive defeats, with two losses to Rangers either side of a Europa League defeat by Ferencvaros.

Speaking to CelticPlayer on Tuesday, O’Neill said his ambition remained to lead the club to another league title.

“It was a time of reflection for a moment or two,” he said.

“I’m back, I’m raring to go, and the team’s ready.”

Celtic return with two-point lead

Despite their difficult run before the break, Celtic remain two points clear at the top of the Premiership.

They visit Motherwell at Fir Park on Sunday, beginning a demanding sequence of nine matches in 28 days.

O’Neill said there was a positive atmosphere among the players training at Lennoxtown, although several members of his squad remained away on international duty.

The manager’s immediate task is to turn that confidence into results as the Scottish Premiership title race resumes.

Jota makes progress towards return

O’Neill also reported encouraging news on Jota, who played 45 minutes in a behind-closed-doors match against Falkirk last Friday.

Alistair Johnston and Callum Osmand have returned to work on the grass, although the manager did not confirm their availability for Motherwell.

Those developments offer encouragement before a busy run, with Sunday providing Celtic’s first opportunity to respond to their recent setbacks.
