The Red Roses vice-captain says England do not need an overhaul as they prepare to face Canada again in Ottawa.

Amy Cokayne says England must address the small errors that proved costly against Canada, rather than abandon their approach after their 41-match unbeaten run ended.

The Red Roses vice-captain believes the problems exposed in Toronto can be corrected before the teams meet again at TD Place in Ottawa on Friday 23 October.

England lost 24-21 at BMO Field, where Shoshanah Seumanutafa’s late try secured Canada’s victory.

Amy Cokayne backs England to respond

“We know we’re not miles off,” Cokayne said in comments reported by RugbyPass.

The hooker said England had identified areas to improve in their review, with execution and mistakes at important moments central to the discussion.

Cokayne also stressed the need to move from disappointment into preparation. Players should have room to process the defeat, she said, but must be ready to focus when training resumes.

Canada rematch gives Red Roses an immediate test

Canada’s win came in front of 18,621 spectators, a record home crowd for their women’s team. Rugby Canada confirmedit was their first victory over England on Canadian soil.

The result gives Friday’s second meeting a different context. Canada have an opportunity to repeat their success, while England can test their response against the same opponents just a week later.

For Cokayne, that quick turnaround is an opportunity: the Red Roses can put the lessons from Toronto into practice without waiting months for another meeting.
