Clayton wins Swiss Darts Trophy after strong final day
Clayton won four matches on Sunday to take the trophy, starting with a 6–4 victory over Rob Cross.
He then beat Karel Sedlacek 6–2 in the quarter-finals and Gian van Veen 7–4 in the last four to set up the final against Humphries.
His form had been evident from Saturday’s opening appearance, when he averaged 108.81 in a 6–1 win over Maik Kuivenhoven.
Humphries falls short of another title
Humphries reached the final after beating Krzysztof Ratajski 6–0, Cristo Reyes 6–3 and Mensur Suljovic 7–4 on Sunday.
But Clayton stopped the top seed in the decider, completing a tournament in which none of his five opponents took him to a deciding leg.
The result crowned a new Swiss Darts Trophy champion after Stephen Bunting’s title defence ended against Jeffrey de Graaf in the second round.
Basel hosted the penultimate European Tour event of the season, with the Dutch Darts Championship next on the circuit.
