Motherwell 0-2 Celtic: early goal sets the tone

Durán’s left-footed finish gave Celtic an early lead, which they carried into the interval.

Motherwell remained within one goal until Nygren struck 13 minutes after the restart. Høgh supplied the assist as Celtic established the two-goal cushion they maintained until full-time.

The visitors had 66% possession and won nine corners to Motherwell’s two. The hosts were unable to find a goal despite being credited with three big chances.

Celtic make changes after extending advantage

Haissem Hassan and Shumaira Mheuka replaced Durán and Høgh in the 73rd minute, before Jota came on for Sebastian Tounekti a minute later.

Oliver Sørensen subsequently replaced Nygren, while Jordan Lotomba took over from Kieran Tierney in the 82nd minute.

Tierney was booked shortly before his withdrawal, and Lotomba received a yellow card three minutes after coming on. Joe Hodge was Motherwell’s only booking.

The fixture was shown live on Sky Sports Football, as detailed in our Motherwell vs Celtic broadcast guide. Celtic’s forthcoming matches are listed on the club’s official fixture page.

The result followed Rangers’ 3–1 victory over Kilmarnock on Saturday, when Ryan Naderi scored twice at Ibrox.
