Vincent van der Voort has urged the PDC to tackle late tournament withdrawals while defending players who choose to miss events.
Speaking to Online Darts, in an interview reported by Dartsnews, the Dutchman said decisions made close to the draw created avoidable difficulties.
“But now they’re skipping it after the draw or just before the draw, and it makes it all very difficult,” he said.
Vincent van der Voort proposes calendar changes
Van der Voort suggested staging Players Championship events alongside European Tour weekends at the same location.
He also favours holding qualifiers immediately before the main tournament, although he acknowledged the difficulty of fitting that around other commitments.
His criticism centres on when players withdraw. He believes they should be able to plan selective schedules.
Recalling a conversation with Michael van Gerwen, he estimated that entering every tournament could mean around 280 days away from home. That was his estimate, rather than an official PDC calculation.
