What the managers said

Alvaro Arbeloa (Fulham)

The Fulham manager gave his team news ahead of the game, saying only Tom Cairney is a concern.

“Yes, everyone is fit. Just Tom Cairney has some issues in his knee, so I don’t want to take any risks with him. He will not be available for tomorrow’s game, so he will be available for after the international break.”

Arbeloa also spoke about where Fulham stand and what the team needs at home.

“We are far from where I want us to be, but we’re taking small steps. I told my players the other day, you win because you believe, and that’s what confidence means: you believe in yourself when you’re not winning. We know that we have to fight every game. We have very good support at home, we need to win games.”

On young players, he said:

“I believe in young players, and maybe it would be easier for us to sign a player with more experience who can perform straight away. I will be patient with young players. Maybe they need time to perform. I know it’s hard for the supporters, but it’s really nice when you believe in someone during the difficult moments because they will score goals.”

“We are not better than any team. We have to fight for every goal.”

Team news

Fulham are without Tom Cairney, who has a knee issue and is expected to be available after the international break, according to Arbeloa, who said everyone else is fit. R. Sessegnon is also listed as absent because of a red card. Newcastle have four players listed as out: E. Jaouen (muscle injury), L. Miley (muscle injury), M. Fernandez-Pardo (illness) and V. Livramento (knee injury).
