Shane Mosley Jr made weight at the second attempt after coming in one pound over the middleweight limit for Saturday’s fight with Denzel Bentley.

The American returned to the scales within the permitted hour on Friday 6 November, keeping their Zuffa Boxing 12 co-main event on track at London’s Copper Box Arena.

Bentley weighed 160lb at his first attempt. Main-event fighters Chris Billam-Smith and Cheavon Clarke also came in below the cruiserweight limit ahead of the Sky Sports card.

Mosley initially remained one pound over even after stripping behind a screen. He used the full hour to lose the remaining weight before returning to the scales, Sky Sports reported from the weigh-in.

Bentley stayed to watch his opponent’s second attempt and welcomed confirmation that the bout would go ahead.

“He’s made the weight now, hopefully rehydrates nice and healthy and we have a good fight tomorrow,” Bentley told Sky Sports.

Bentley begins Zuffa chapter after losing WBO belt

Bentley enters the fight as a former WBO middleweight champion. His world title will not be at stake following the sanctioning body’s decision to strip him amid the dispute over his mandatory obligations.

The Londoner has challenged that decision, saying he believed a voluntary defence could take place before a meeting with mandatory challenger Yoenli Hernandez next year.

Speaking to Sky Sports about his preparations, Bentley said he wanted to put the dispute behind him and focus on boxing.

He brings a 22-3-1 record with 18 knockouts into his Zuffa debut. Mosley is 23-5 with 13 knockouts and arrives after a sixth-round stoppage of Serhii Bohachuk.

Billam-Smith and Clarke make weight after tense face-off

Billam-Smith and Clarke cleared the 200lb cruiserweight limit a day after Clarke declined a handshake during their face-off interview, accepting a fist bump instead.

Clarke beat Billam-Smith in the 2016 elite amateur championships final before progressing to the GB squad and the Olympic Games. Billam-Smith subsequently became WBO cruiserweight world champion under trainer Shane McGuigan.

Discussing their shared history in Thursday’s face-off interview, Clarke rejected the suggestion that he had taken Billam-Smith’s place, pointing out that both had been assessed for the squad.

Both fighters won in Bournemouth in June: Billam-Smith beat Ryan Rozicki, while Clarke recovered from two knockdowns to stop Jack Massey.
