Carlos Baleba looks set to miss Manchester United’s game against Aston Villa on Sunday, giving Youri Tielemans a chance to start against his former club after impressing Michael Carrick against Roma.
Baleba hurt his hamstring early in the second half of Tuesday’s 3–2 Champions League win. Tielemans replaced him with United 2–0 down and played the rest of the match as Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha turned the game around.
What has Manchester United said about Baleba’s injury?
United’s update ahead of the Villa game says Baleba looks set to miss Sunday’s match. The club has yet to confirm the full extent of the injury or give a recovery timetable.
Baleba started alongside Kobbie Mainoo against Roma. If Carrick keeps Mainoo in midfield, Tielemans is an option to partner him after making that switch during the comeback. Carrick praised the Belgian’s performance off the bench.
Who else could miss Man Utd vs Aston Villa?
Lisandro Martínez will serve a one-match domestic suspension after his red card against Chelsea. The defender was eligible to play against Roma and came on in the second half.
Patrick Dorgu is back in training after a hamstring injury. He sat out the Roma game, and Carrick said United would assess his progress through the week. Luke Shaw, Manuel Ugarte, Marcus Rashford and Benjamin Šeško have also been out of action. Villa will be without suspended full-back Matty Cash.
United are looking for their first Premier League win since August. Kick-off is at 4.30pm GMT on Sunday 8 November at Old Trafford. Follow the Man Utd vs Aston Villa match centre for team news and confirmed line-ups.
