Jermall Charlo injured as Resendiz replaces him

Jermall Charlo has withdrawn from his October 17 fight against Koen Mazoudier through injury, with former world champion Armando Resendiz taking his place.

Resendiz will face the Australian in a 10-round super-middleweight contest at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, on the undercard of Sebastian Fundora’s world-title defence against Ermal Hadribeaj.

The Ring’s Mike Coppinger reported that Charlo suffered the injury during training camp.

Resendiz replaces Jermall Charlo

The replacement bout gives Resendiz an opportunity to respond to his unanimous-decision defeat by Jaime Munguia in May, when he lost his WBA super-middleweight title.

“I’m hungry for a world title shot and I know I have to earn it,” Resendiz said in comments published by Fightmag.

The Mexican enters the contest with 16 wins and three defeats, including 11 victories inside the distance. Mazoudier has 16 wins, four losses and one draw.

Fundora headlines Las Vegas card

Fundora is scheduled to defend his WBC super-welterweight belt against Hadribeaj in the main event.

Brandon Figueroa’s WBA featherweight title defence against Tomoki Kameda also features on the bill.

Charlo’s withdrawal leaves Mazoudier preparing for a different opponent, but his place on the October 17 card remains intact.
