West Ham agree Scott Parker appointment after sacking Nuno Espírito Santo – report

West Ham have sacked Nuno Espírito Santo after successive home defeats left them eighth in the Championship, with Scott Parker among the contenders to replace him.

Nuno Espírito Santo, who has been sacked as West Ham head coach

West Ham have agreed a deal for Scott Parker to replace Nuno Espírito Santo as head coach, according to talkSPORT, as they look to revive their Championship promotion bid.

The former Hammers midfielder is reportedly lined up for a return after the club confirmed Nuno’s departure on Tuesday morning. West Ham hope to have his successor in place before Wednesday’s trip to Cardiff City.

There has been no appointment announcement in the club’s published statement, which says the recruitment process is underway.

Scott Parker set for West Ham return

talkSPORT reports that West Ham have reached an agreement with Parker, who has been available since leaving Burnley in April.

Parker has taken Fulham, Bournemouth and Burnley up from the Championship. That record would give West Ham a head coach with experience of delivering the immediate return to the Premier League they are seeking.

He also knows the club from four years as a player between 2007 and 2011, when he made 129 appearances and won their Player of the Year award in three successive seasons.

Nuno leaves after successive home defeats

West Ham dismissed Nuno after defeats by Southampton and West Bromwich Albion left them eighth in the Championship. Saturday’s 3–1 loss to West Brom at London Stadium proved his final match.

Nuno took over from Graham Potter in September 2025 and remained in charge after relegation. West Ham won six of their opening 13 league games this season, but the latest setbacks left them six points behind leaders Middlesbrough.

In their statement confirming his departure, West Ham said the board had reviewed the start of the season and decided a change was needed to keep the club’s objectives on course.

Assistant head coach Rui Pedro Silva and goalkeeper coach Rui Barbosa have also left.

Who is preparing West Ham for Cardiff?

Mark Noble, Steve Potts and Gerard Prenderville have been placed in temporary charge of squad preparations for Wednesday’s Championship fixture at Cardiff.

West Ham said they would make no further comment until a new head coach had been confirmed. That leaves the timing of any Parker announcement, and whether he will be in the dugout for the Cardiff match, still to be settled.

For West Ham, the immediate task is to halt a run of two defeats and regain ground in the promotion race. Parker’s reported agreement moves the search on from identifying candidates, but the club has yet to formally name Nuno’s replacement.
