Derek Chisora comeback: Boxer says he faces Board dispute

Derek Chisora says he is in dispute with the British Boxing Board of Control over his proposed return to the ring.

“I’m having an argument with the British Boxing Board of Control right now,” he told talkSPORT on Thursday.

However, the broadcaster reports that Board general secretary Robert Smith says he has not yet discussed the comeback with Chisora.

Derek Chisora comeback plans

The 42-year-old outlined plans to face Murat Gassiev in December at an International Boxing Association press conference in Istanbul on Tuesday.

London and Manchester were under consideration, but the announcement did not establish an exact date, venue or final sanctioning arrangements.

Chisora last fought in April, when he lost to Deontay Wilder in his 50th professional contest. That appearance had been billed as his farewell.

His proposed return would extend a career that has included fights against Tyson Fury, Vitali Klitschko and Oleksandr Usyk.

Chisora also said at Tuesday’s announcement that he wanted IBA and WBA belts at stake. The championship arrangements remain a separate question from his intention to fight again.
