Wesley Plaisier misses World Championship spot but has two chances left
Dutch darts player Wesley Plaisier has missed out on a place at the PDC World Championship and says he feels wronged and angry, in comments published by Dartsnews.com.
Wesley Plaisier says he feels “deeply disappointed” after finishing one place outside the World Championship’s ProTour qualification spots — but his hopes of reaching Alexandra Palace are still alive.
The Dutchman also missed the Players Championship Finals following the final ProTour event of the season in Leicester on Thursday 5 November.
The PDC confirmed that his first-round defeat by Cameron Menzies left him one position short in both qualification races.
Wesley Plaisier falls short in two qualification races
Plaisier finished 41st in the race for the 40 World Championship places available through the ProTour rankings to players outside the main Order of Merit’s qualifying positions.
He was also 65th in the Players Championship Order of Merit, which determines the 64-player field for the Finals at Minehead.
His £33,000 total left him £250 behind the final Players Championship Finals qualifying place. The two tables serve different tournaments: missing Minehead does not itself rule a player out of the World Championship.
| Qualification race | Plaisier’s position | Places available |
|---|---|---|
| World Championship via ProTour rankings | 41st | 40 |
| Players Championship Finals | 65th | 64 |
Plaisier speaks about difficult end to the season
In a social media message reported by Dartsnews.com, Plaisier described himself as “deeply disappointed, feeling wronged and angry, and mentally broken”.
He also discussed managing diabetes during a difficult spell of results. His comments describe his own experience of the season and the disappointment of missing his immediate targets.
Can Wesley Plaisier still qualify for the World Championship?
Yes. Plaisier said he has two further World Championship qualifying events to contest. His latest setback concerns the ProTour route, rather than elimination from every possible qualification route.
The distinction matters with places still available before the tournament. Our darts rankings coverage follows the standings, while the PDC majors hub covers the remaining major events.
Plaisier beat Gerwyn Price at the last World Championship
Plaisier reached the third round of the 2026 World Championship, going further than the second-round meeting listed in the original draw.
He beat Gerwyn Price 3-0 before losing 4-3 to Krzysztof Ratajski in the last 32. The Dutch darts federation’s report of his exit recorded that he missed three match darts against Ratajski.
His next task is to earn another opportunity at Alexandra Palace through the remaining qualifiers.
