Watford vs Middlesbrough injury news leaves both managers with decisions in attack before Saturday’s Championship match. Will Lankshear remains a doubt for Boro, while Watford are monitoring Myron Boadu.

The hosts also need to replace suspended midfielder Hector Kyprianou. Middlesbrough, meanwhile, must consider how much football David Strelec can manage following his recent return from injury.

Kick-off at Vicarage Road is at 3pm UK time on Saturday 7 November.

Watford injury news: Boadu faces late assessment

Boadu was seen with strapping around his knee after Tuesday’s win over Lincoln City. Alessio Dionisi said he would wait until Saturday before deciding his squad, with the striker among the situations still being assessed.

The Watford manager’s Friday fitness update also brought better news: Martin Payero is ready to start, and Branimir Mlačić is now considered capable of playing 90 minutes.

Dionisi said Payero would play against Middlesbrough. His availability is timely because Kyprianou serves a one-match ban for accumulating five yellow cards.

Bove progresses but Grieves remains unavailable

Edoardo Bove has rejoined the group, with Dionisi targeting readiness during the international break. Jack Grieves is not yet available and could also return after the break.

Watford’s official rehabilitation update identified Kwadwo Baah’s thigh injury, Jeremy Ngakia’s quad problem and Soumaïla Coulibaly’s hamstring injury. All three have been building fitness with the rehabilitation staff.

Michail Antonio is also among the players expected to miss out in the latest Championship team news.

Will Lankshear injury update: Middlesbrough striker remains a doubt

Lankshear missed Wednesday’s 2-0 defeat at Wrexham with a muscle problem. Kim Hellberg remains hopeful the forward can feature at Watford, but his return has not been confirmed.

Hellberg’s update, reported by Hayters, leaves the striker requiring a fitness decision rather than establishing that he will start.

David Strelec available for minutes but starting role uncertain

Strelec has appeared as a substitute against Charlton and Wrexham after recovering from a muscular injury. However, Hellberg has warned against asking too much of him immediately.

The striker had completed only a week of training with the squad before the Wrexham match. The short turnaround between away fixtures gives him limited time to increase that workload.

“There is a lot of travelling and not much training time,” Hellberg said in the latest report on Strelec’s fitness.

That makes his situation different from Lankshear’s. Strelec has returned to match action, but his ability to start remains under consideration. He should not be listed as definitely out or assumed to be Lankshear’s replacement.

Alfie Jones and Rokas Pukštas remain unavailable through injury.

What the team news means

Analysis: Payero’s improved fitness gives Watford an option in midfield while Kyprianou is suspended. Boadu’s assessment could still affect the attacking selection.

Middlesbrough have two separate questions up front: whether Lankshear can play, and whether Strelec can safely handle a starting role. The final team sheet will settle those decisions.
