Scotland team news: Rowe starts as Kinghorn takes bench role

Rowe joins Jamie Dobie and Kyle Steyn in the back three, with Blair Kinghorn and Tom Jordan among the replacements. Finn Russell partners Ben White at half-back, while Tuipulotu and Huw Jones form the centre partnership.

Rory Sutherland starts at loosehead alongside Ewan Ashman and Zander Fagerson. Gregor Brown and Scott Cummings are the locks, with Matt Fagerson, Rory Darge and Jack Dempsey completing the pack.

Scottish Rugby’s team announcement confirms Steyn and Darge as vice-captains. Gregor Hiddleston provides hooker cover on a bench containing five forwards and three backs.

New Zealand team news: Jordie Barrett returns

Dave Rennie has made two changes to the starting side that faced Australia in Sydney. Ethan de Groot comes in at loosehead and Jordie Barrett returns at inside centre.

Taylor captains from hooker, with Damian McKenzie directing the attack at fly-half. Beauden Barrett starts at full-back between wings Josh Moorby and Will Jordan.

The All Blacks’ official squad announcement also confirms Asafo Aumua, Christian Lio-Willie and Anton Segner among the replacements.

New Zealand will wear white jerseys featuring a poppy and black armbands in memory of head of security Logan Cadwallader, who died in Edinburgh on Sunday.

Have Scotland ever beaten New Zealand?

Scotland have never beaten the All Blacks in 33 Tests. New Zealand have won 31 meetings, with the other two ending in draws at Murrayfield: 0-0 in 1964 and 25-25 in 1983.

The last four encounters have been settled by eight points or fewer. Scotland recovered from 17-0 down to draw level in the most recent meeting, before New Zealand eventually won 25-17.

Analysis: Scotland’s bench gives Townsend several ways to change the attack, particularly through Jordan and Kinghorn. Against a New Zealand backline containing McKenzie, Will Jordan and Beauden Barrett, the hosts will also need to limit the loose possession that creates counter-attacking opportunities.

What comes next in the Nations Championship?

Both teams enter the match second in their respective hemisphere standings. Scotland next face Australia and Japan, while New Zealand continue their tour against Wales and England.
