Liverpool returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory at Crystal Palace as Alexis Mac Allister, Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak scored at Selhurst Park.

Eddie Nketiah’s stoppage-time penalty was only a consolation for Palace, who dropped to the bottom of the Premier League. Liverpool moved into fourth after responding to successive defeats.

Mac Allister makes the breakthrough

Palace had the ball in the net through Jorgen Strand Larsen before the interval, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Liverpool took advantage in the 40th minute. Dominik Szoboszlai delivered a free-kick from the right and Mac Allister found space at the near post to head beyond Dean Henderson.

The goal gave the visitors a narrow half-time lead before Wirtz put them firmly in control after the restart.

Bradley Barcola supplied the second, breaking down the right and finding Wirtz for a first-time finish in the 54th minute.

Isak added Liverpool’s third a minute from the end of normal time, completing a productive afternoon for an attack that had three different players on the scoresheet.

Nketiah converted from the spot deep into added time, but Palace had left themselves too much to do. Their late goal did nothing to change the destination of the points.

Liverpool head into the break with a win

Andoni Iraola had recalled Wirtz, Isak and Cody Gakpo, alongside defenders Ronald Araujo and Milos Kerkez, following the midweek defeat at Fenerbahce.

Two of those returning attackers scored as Liverpool earned the response they needed. The club’s official match report has further details.
