Jacob Murphy supplied the spectacular finish and Rodrigo Muniz the swift response, with both earning eight in our Fulham vs Newcastle player ratings after a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage.

Murphy broke the deadlock after 80 minutes, but substitute Muniz equalised three minutes later. There was still time for both goalkeepers to protect the point, with Bernd Leno denying Lewis Hall and Lukas Hornicek keeping out Ryan Sessegnon.

Those interventions mattered as much as the goals in deciding the result. Fulham had more possession, but Newcastle created opportunities they will feel should have produced more.

These are our provisional editorial marks based on published match reports and recorded match events. Players with insufficient reported involvement are left unrated.

Fulham vs Newcastle player ratings: Fulham starting XI

Bernd Leno — 8/10: Made important stops against Barnes and denied Hall late on. Murphy needed an excellent finish to beat him.

Timothy Castagne — 6/10: Was fouled by Wissa in the incident that ruled out Burn’s goal. Replaced before the late scoring.

David Affengruber — 7/10: Helped Fulham compete defensively through a match in which Newcastle’s forwards could not turn their chances into goals.

Calvin Bassey — 6/10: Contributed to Fulham’s defensive resistance, but Murphy found room to turn inside before scoring.

Antonee Robinson — 6/10: Part of a defence kept occupied by Newcastle’s wide threats. The visitors’ opportunities prevent a higher collective assessment.

Sander Berge — 6/10: Went close after the interval. Fulham had plenty of the ball but needed more penetration from midfield.

Shea Charles — 6/10: Contributed to the midfield contest without a decisive attacking involvement. A supporting role in a closely matched game.

Oscar Bobb — 7/10: Forced Hornicek into an early save. One of Fulham’s clearer threats before being replaced.

Josh King — 6/10: Tested Hornicek with a volley but could not make his chances count. Replaced by Palacios.

Alex Iwobi — 7/10: Fulham’s most productive creator, recording four key passes. His service deserved a better return before the late equaliser.

Gonzalo Garcia — 5/10: Threatened from an early corner but finished without a goal. Muniz supplied the decisive contribution after replacing him.

Fulham substitutes

Rodrigo Muniz — 8/10: Fulham’s most influential substitute. His inventive finish turned a looming defeat into a point.

Cesar Palacios — 7/10: Delivered the ball from which Muniz equalised. An important contribution after coming on for King.

Kenny Tete — N/R: Limited reported involvement after replacing Castagne.

Ryan Sessegnon — 7/10: Almost won it with a powerful late effort, denied by Hornicek’s excellent save.

Unused: Benjamin Lecomte, Joachim Andersen, Kevin, Hugo Larsson, Manuel Angel.

Fulham vs Newcastle player ratings: Newcastle starting XI

Lukas Hornicek — 8/10: Stopped Bobb and King before his outstanding late intervention against Sessegnon. A substantial contribution to Newcastle’s point.

Amar Dedic — 6/10: Helped Newcastle defend against Fulham’s greater possession. Booked in added time.

Malick Thiaw — 7/10: Contributed to a defensive display that restricted Fulham’s opportunities despite their territorial advantage. Forced off late on.

Dan Burn — 7/10: Had a goal disallowed for Wissa’s foul. Unfortunate to get a touch on Muniz’s equaliser.

Lewis Hall — 7/10: Nearly restored Newcastle’s lead, only for Leno to intervene. Offered a late attacking threat from defence.

Sean Steur — 6/10: Part of the midfield screen that made Fulham work for openings. Replaced by Fernandez-Pardo.

Nico Gonzalez — 6/10: Helped Newcastle compete without dominating possession. Withdrawn alongside Wissa after 61 minutes.

Jacob Murphy — 8/10: Our Newcastle standout. His goal was outstanding, while his crossing and chance creation gave the visitors more than one route forward.

Yoane Wissa — 5/10: His foul cost Newcastle Burn’s goal, and he later found the side-netting. A frustrating afternoon.

Harvey Barnes — 6/10: Repeatedly threatened but could not beat Leno. Getting into those positions was encouraging; the finishing was costly.

William Osula — 5/10: Could not provide the goal Newcastle needed from their centre-forward. Replaced by Elanga late on.

Newcastle substitutes

Joe Willock — N/R: Replaced Wissa, but the available reporting does not provide enough individual detail for a fair mark.

Lewis Miley — N/R: Introduced for Gonzalez. Insufficient individual evidence to assess his appearance confidently.

Matias Fernandez-Pardo — N/R: Replaced Steur without enough documented involvement to award a mark.

Fabian Schar — N/R: Replaced Thiaw late on and was booked.

Anthony Elanga — N/R: Introduced in the closing minutes for Osula.

Unused: Nick Pope, Tino Livramento, Sven Botman, Bazoumana Toure.
