Martin Odegaard delivered the winner, but Noni Madueke takes our highest mark in the Arsenal vs Hull player ratings after a hard-earned 1-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium.
Odegaard reacted first when Konstantinos Tzolakis could only push out Madueke’s shot in the 72nd minute. It settled a contest in which Hull made Arsenal work for their openings and carried enough threat to keep the home defence occupied.
Madueke was central to Arsenal’s best attacking moments. At the other end, Ezri Konsa made an important intervention to help preserve the clean sheet, while Hull’s defenders deserve credit despite leaving without a point.
Here are our marks for both teams. Ratings are editorial assessments based on published match reporting, with late substitutes left unrated where there is insufficient evidence to judge their contribution.
Arsenal vs Hull player ratings: Arsenal starting XI
David Raya — 7/10: Stopped Elliot Stroud at a significant moment. Hull did not overwhelm him with chances, but that intervention helped keep Arsenal level.
Jurrien Timber — 6/10: Supplied a useful cross for Tzolis. Some attacking contribution without becoming one of the game’s defining players.
Ezri Konsa — 8/10: His sliding block against Mohamed-Ali Cho was an important piece of defending. Arsenal needed that protection while committing players forward.
Gabriel — 7/10: Helped contain Hull’s forwards and made a valuable interception to halt Cho. A solid contribution to another narrow victory.
Riccardo Calafiori — 6/10: Less influential in attack than Arsenal needed against a packed defence. Replaced by Hincapie as Arteta changed the left side.
Bruno Guimaraes — 6/10: Some useful passing through midfield, although Arsenal’s possession did not consistently translate into openings.
Declan Rice — 7/10: His recovery challenge after Raya’s save prevented Iroegbunam capitalising. Also threatened from distance before being withdrawn.
Noni Madueke — 8/10: Our player of the match. Tested Tzolakis before the breakthrough and forced the save from which Odegaard scored. Arsenal’s most persistent attacking outlet.
Martin Odegaard — 8/10: The decisive contribution. Read the rebound before Hull’s defenders and supplied the finish Arsenal had been missing.
Christos Tzolis — 5/10: Had opportunities to test the goalkeeper but lacked accuracy at important moments, including when Timber picked him out.
Kai Havertz — 5/10: Struggled to impose himself. The disputed penalty incident dominated his afternoon, with an offside decision following the review of Mendy’s shirt pull.
Arsenal substitutes
Viktor Gyokeres — 5/10: Replaced Havertz after 63 minutes but made little attacking impact.
Mikel Merino — 6/10: Brought composure to midfield after replacing Rice.
Eberechi Eze — 6/10: Offered a different attacking option, although his effort from distance went over.
Piero Hincapie — 6/10: Provided an overlapping option and delivered a threatening cross before the goal.
Martin Zubimendi — N/R: Introduced in the 89th minute.
Unused: Kepa Arrizabalaga, Ben White, Cristhian Mosquera, Myles Lewis-Skelly.
Arsenal vs Hull player ratings: Hull starting XI
Konstantinos Tzolakis — 7/10: Several important saves kept Hull in contention. Unfortunately, his handling of Madueke’s decisive shot left Odegaard a finish.
Lewie Coyle — 6/10: Helped Hull resist before being replaced early in the second half.
Semi Ajayi — 8/10: A major obstacle in Arsenal’s path. His defending inside the box was particularly valuable before injury forced him off.
John Egan — 7/10: Headed an early chance into the side-netting and contributed to Hull’s determined defending.
Nobel Mendy — 6/10: The shirt pull on Havertz risked undoing his defensive work. Fortunate the review ended with an offside decision.
Elliot Stroud — 6/10: Forced Raya into action but faced a demanding afternoon against Madueke.
Regan Slater — 6/10: His corner created Egan’s early opportunity. Part of a midfield that worked hard to restrict Arsenal.
Tim Iroegbunam — 6/10: Nearly profited from Raya’s save, only for Rice to intervene. Offered resistance in midfield.
Lucas Gourna-Douath — 6/10: Helped protect the defence, although maintaining that protection became harder as Arsenal increased the pressure.
Mohamed-Ali Cho — 6/10: His pace gave Hull an outlet. Konsa’s block stopped one promising break.
Oli McBurnie — 6/10: Released Stroud and helped launch another counter through Cho. Useful work without a decisive chance himself.
Hull substitutes
Joe Gelhardt — 6/10: Offered a fresh attacking outlet after replacing Cho.
Brooke Norton-Cuffy — 5/10: An early booking complicated his task against Arsenal’s substitutes.
Lucas Herrington — 6/10: Replaced the injured Ajayi shortly before the breakthrough. A difficult stage to enter.
Christos Mouzakitis — N/R: Insufficient reported involvement to award a fair mark.
Ryan Giles — N/R: Insufficient reported involvement to award a fair mark.
Unused: Jack Butland, Thomas, Hjerto-Dahl, Vaz.
