Jacob Murphy had put the visitors ahead just three minutes earlier, but substitute Muniz responded to earn Fulham a 1-1 draw and extend their unbeaten Premier League run to four matches.
Newcastle goalkeeper Luděk Horníček then made a late save to preserve a point after a game that remained goalless until the final 10 minutes.
Muniz responds after Murphy breakthrough
Neither side could find a breakthrough before half-time, and the prospect of a goalless draw remained until Murphy struck in the 80th minute.
His goal put Newcastle within reach of a welcome win following successive defeats by Everton in the Carabao Cup and Premier League.
That advantage lasted only three minutes. Muniz, who had started on the bench, brought Fulham level before Horníček’s late intervention ensured Newcastle avoided a third consecutive defeat.
The Times’ live coverage followed the late drama as both sides had to settle for a point.
Fulham keep unbeaten run going
Fulham had taken seven points from their previous three league matches and added another through Muniz’s timely contribution.
For Newcastle, there was frustration at surrendering a lead so close to the finish, even if the draw stopped their losing run before the international break.
