Harry Kane Bayern contract runs to 2029 after Ballon d’Or win
Bayern Munich have confirmed that England captain Harry Kane has signed a new deal until 2029, ten days after he won the Ballon d'Or.
Bayern Munich have announced that England captain Harry Kane has signed a new contract running until 2029, ten days after the 33-year-old won the Ballon d’Or.
The new Bayern contract was confirmed on Thursday 5 November 2026. The striker has scored 156 goals in 161 games since joining from Tottenham in 2023.
The striker was in the final 12 months of the four-year deal he signed on arrival in Germany, BBC Sport reports. The extension keeps him at the club through Euro 2028 and to within a year of the 2030 World Cup.
Harry Kane Bayern contract: what has been agreed
The deal runs until the summer of 2029, which Sky Sports describes as a new two-and-a-half-year contract. It would take him to shortly before his 36th birthday.
Kane said the decision reflected how settled he is in Munich. “I feel right at home at FC Bayern. I love the club, the fans and the city of Munich,” he told the club’s official website.
He added that his family are happy in the city. “I was keen to stay. I’m now looking forward to the future and I want to win many more titles with this great club,” the striker said.
Harry Kane salary at Bayern Munich: figure and club reaction
Sky in Germany reported that his new salary is a minimum of £20.9m (€25m) gross per year.
Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund said the club had the world’s best player on the pitch. “We’re absolutely delighted, because with Harry Kane we have the Ballon d’Or winner on the pitch – a team player, a leader, the best all-round striker in the world,” he said, as quoted by The Guardian.
Chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen called the extension a commitment to the club. “The Ballon d’Or winner is staying at Bayern Munich,” he said, according to The Independent.
Kane Ballon d’Or Bayern signing: the record behind the reward
The striker scored 61 goals in 51 games for Bayern last season as the club completed a league and cup double. Across Bayern and England he scored 73 goals in 65 matches in 2025-26, including six at the World Cup.
He is the first Bundesliga player to win the Ballon d’Or since 1996 and the first Englishman to win it in 25 years. He has scored 102 goals in 102 Bundesliga matches and won three successive Golden Boot awards.
He has won two Bundesliga titles and the German Cup with Bayern, having not won a major trophy before his move. Bayern drew 2-2 at home with Arsenal in the Champions League recently, and Kane set up Alphonso Davies for the equaliser.
Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood, who gave the striker his full Premier League debut, described the route to the award as unusual. “This is a Cinderella story we’ve never seen before,” he told Sky Sports.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher linked the award to the 2023 move. “There’s no way Harry Kane could’ve won the Ballon d’Or if he was playing for Tottenham,” he told Sky Sports.
Sky Sports News reporter Michael Bridge said Bayern do not usually negotiate with players of this age. “He might be 33 but there’s still a lot more left in the tank for Kane,” he said.
Will Harry Kane return to the Premier League?
The extension makes a return to England less likely. Kane remains 47 goals short of Alan Shearer’s Premier League record of 260, according to BBC Sport.
He addressed the question after winning the Ballon d’Or. “Not at the moment, not right now. I’m loving life in Munich,” he said, as quoted by The Independent. He said his focus is on winning the Champions League with Bayern and a major trophy with England.
The deal gives Bayern their captain-level scorer through the next international tournament cycle. It does not rule out a later move, but it removes the prospect for at least two and a half years.
Kane has equalled Peter Shilton’s England record of 125 caps and will look to pass it in the upcoming Nations League matches. For more on the market, see dave.sport’s football transfers coverage and the latest Premier League news.
